NEO-SOUL PIONEER TRENIER DIES

Dominique Trenier, former manager and producer of D’Angelo and a producer of the Space Jam soundtrack, died Friday in Los Angeles. No cause or age was given.

Okayplayer called him “one of unheralded architects of NYC’s downtown renaissance and the ‘neo-soul’ movement at-large.”

Executive producer of D'Angelo’s Voodoo, he also directed the music video for “Untitled (How Does It Feel?)” with Paul Hunter.

With R. Kelly, Trenier produced the soundtrack for Space Jam, which includes music from Seal, Busta Rhymes and LL Cool J. He executive produced albums by Mark Ronson, Monica and Nikka Costa.

He was also my musical mentor, my most trusted set of ears and my earliest champion,” Ronson wrote on Instagram.
